I'm writing this on Sunday afternoon. Not a good weekend. It started (for us, not Cassie) Friday night. We're in a bit of a dispute with our neighbors. And rather than negotiate with us, we got an email from that night saying that they didn't want to talk and that we had to deal with their lawyer...
So, on to Saturday and Cassie.
Early afternoon. Maxine & I are in my office. We're arguing, but not too heatedly. Cassie gets up and comes towards Maxine, who's standing. She's got a bit of a stagger to her gait. It's obvious to both of us that something is wrong. I pick her up. Then put her down. She's getting twitchy. The twitching gets worse and we gently help her come down onto her side. Her eyes have a distracted look. She starts shaking. It slows down some, then gets worse. Her teeth are bared and they look dirty. It really isn't even clear that she's there for this. Maxine starts timing the seizure. It lasts 2:20. We're both on the floor with her trying to comfort her. I'm behind, petting her shoulders and chest and stomach. Maxine in front of her. Maxine notices some drool coming out and goes for a towel. No urine leaking, so she puts the towel under Cassie's mouth. Eventually, after forever, Cassie slows down and stops, her eyes open and glazed.
I wonder if the seizure has left her paralyzed. I'm thinking that if it has, they we don't have a choice. But, after fifteen minutes laying on the floor in my office, she looks up. Then staggering, she gets up. It is extremely difficult to watch her. We've been at this, all in, nearly a half hour now. She walks around some, bumping into things, listing to the right. We eventually convince her to lie back down. Maxine and I agree that Maxine should go grocery shopping (the Defilippis's are coming over) and I'll nap with Cassie. I only sleep for 5 minutes, but Cassie sleeps for 1 1/2 hours. By then the staggering is over.
I forgot --- after she was up and staggering we took her outside in case she wanted to pee. At one point I'm alone outside with her and she's walking past me, between me and the pool. She slips and her rear leg falls in. Is this all the beginning of the end?
It's a difficult 24 hours...
